Apprentice Electronic Technicians play a key role looking after the communications networks.

You’ll join a team that supports and maintains the internal network in BT telephone exchanges, radio stations and data centres and be responsible for establishing and maintaining communications systems. You’ll do this using a range of different physical and remote tools, to install hardware and software.

Your day to day can range from finding faults, to dividing cables between two digital distribution frames. You might also carry out tasks to install and commission various types of new equipment within our network buildings – it’s all in a day’s work for you.

About the apprenticeship you’ll study for

As an Apprentice Electronics Technician you’ll study for a Level 3 apprenticeship. Depending on where you’re based will affect the exact apprenticeship you’ll study for will vary:

  • In England, you’ll follow Information Communications Technician Level 3.
  • In Scotland, you’ll follow ICT Modern Apprenticeship Level 3.

Don’t worry, you’ll still be an Electronics Technician, no matter the framework you follow. 

  • Your apprenticeship scheme will last for 18 months. After this you will continue to follow an early career pathway for a set duration which will provide you with the relevant training and skills that will complement your learning, enabling you to become a competent engineer.
  • You’ll spend a minimum of 20% of your time learning and studying.

CalMac are delighted to announce that they are opening the application process for their 2021/22 Seagoing Modern Apprenticeship Programme on Monday 1st March. The company are looking for enthusiastic talent to join their next cohort starting in September 2021.

Recognised as a leader of seagoing apprenticeships by the Merchant Navy, CalMac offers three types of apprenticeship – Engine Rating, Retail and Catering Rating and Deck Rating.

Successful candidates will begin their career gaining hands on experience on board the company vessels while also spending time learning the theoretical knowledge at college.

While no formal qualifications are required, CalMac are looking for candidates who will live and breathe the CalMac values, show a passion for learning and form the next generation of maritime experts.

The apprenticeship is a training programme lasting 18 months. During this period, you will work full time, Monday to Friday, while completing the SVQ in Business and Administration at Level 3.

The training and qualifications you will gain are highly valued in modern industry; employment with DSRL on completion of the programme is dependent on Dounreay’s requirements at the time and your performance.

Requirements

You should:

  • Have achieved (or expect to achieve) a minimum of National 5 (Grades A-C) or Standard Grade (Credit Level) in English and Maths or Maths equivalent 
  • Live within daily travelling distance of Dounreay

Enerpro Group are currently recruiting for a Modern Apprentice in Business and Administration to join their team in Thurso on a full·tlme staff contract that will range between 12 to 18 months working Monday – Friday 8.00am to 4.00pm.  During this time, you will complete the SVQ in Business and
Administration at level 2 with an option to extend It to a level 3.

About the role

The administrator will provide a business & admin support services to projects onshore & offshore. The administrator must ensure the operation of best practice in all processes, procedures and be comfortable in dealing with personnel at all levels within the organisation.

Duties & Responsibilities

Support the day to day running of the department which will include but not limited to:-

  • Ensuring personnel have completed company start forms and the correct paperwork and certification has been received back.
  • Arrange travel accommodation and visas for project and office personnel
  • Arrange training,. medic.al and vaccination requirements for office and offshore personnel
  • Regular communication with internal/ external travel, visa and training providers as required
  • Maintain trackers for training (Matrix), vaccinations and visas for all field personnel and some applicable office personnel
  • Providing periodic reports as required
  • Preparing and issuing sales quotations to customers for projects both onshore and offshore.
  • liaise with customers to arrange project survey site visits.
  • Prepare and issue job notes and all related documents for personnel for all project work
  • Update and manage HR files for projects
  • Collating weekly timesheets for approval
  • Raising purchase orders
  • Understand ISO 9001:2015 & 1400l and how to use the company’s Quality Management System.
  • Sourcing and ordering offshore and office personnel PPE.
  • Creating, updating and maintaining operations work Instructions and all general operations Instruction documents
  • Any other duties as required

An exciting opportunity for a Modern Apprentice to join the team at the Riverbank Medical Practice in Thurso in the role of Receptionist/Administrator.

Riverbank are a salaried NHS Highland General Practice and look after 5,400 patients in the Thurso area.

As a Modern Apprentice you will earn as you learn and gain a professional qualification. This role gives you the opportunity to gain administrative experience while undertaking workplace training to gain a Level 2 Scottish Vocational Qualification (SVQ) in Business and Administration. The Business Administration Modern Apprenticeship programme consists of work-based assessment and classroom based/remote learning. You will be assigned an Assessor who will provide you with support and guidance throughout the Apprenticeship.

The post is for 37.5 hours per week and we are open Monday to Friday from 0800 to 1800 hrs. You will need to work flexibly to ensure cover is provided across the full working day and week. To be successful in this role you will need to have good interpersonal and computer skills, knowledge of MS office, a methodical and detailed approach to tasks and be a team player.

You will provide a comprehensive reception service to our patients and have a wide range of administrative and typing duties. This is a busy role, within a fast paced, but very friendly environment.

This post is on a fixed term for 18 months with the potential for extension following successful completion of the Modern Apprentice/SVQ. The opportunity is open to those between 16 and 19 years of age (on the date of appointment).

What is the Role? 

The Trainee Engineer programme lasts for three years and combines academic study with work based experience.

  • Within Transmission and Distribution you’ll have the opportunity to study towards a HNC in Electrical Engineering.
  • Within Renewables you’ll have the opportunity to study towards Diploma of Higher Education in Engineering Systems.
  • When not studying, you’ll spend the balance of your time on placements which may include working in the field, at Power Stations and Control Rooms or working alongside experienced SSE crafts people and engineers.
  • By the time you reach the third year of the programme you’ll be given increased responsibility in managing small jobs, including technical aspects, safety management and the supervision of crafts people or contractors. Salary upon finishing the trainee engineer programme is circa £32,000.
  • On completion of your programme you will be qualified to work as a Maintenance Engineer, Field Engineer, Project Design Engineer, Systems Planning Engineer or an Operational Control Engineer.

What do I need? 

To be considered for this role, SSE would love you to have: 

  • To be highly organised and self-driven with the ability to manage your time well.
  • Flexible in your approach to work to maximise your chances of success, and you should be happy working alone or as part of a team.
  • You’ll be comfortable to spend some time living away from home whilst attending college or on placements across SSE.
  • For entrance onto the educational aspect of the programme it’s important that you have, or expect to achieve the below qualifications prior to starting the programme in September 2021.

    – 3 Scottish Highers at grade BCC or above, OR 2 A levels at grade CC or above

    – You must have Higher or A level Maths at grade C or above, PLUS

    – National 5 Physics or Engineering Science and English at grade C, or GCSE Physics and English at grade C or above, or equivalent

    SSE are happy to accept applications from candidates with equivalent level engineering / technical qualifications such a HNC in an engineering related discipline. The company will not be able to accept a HNC in electrical engineering for the Networks (Distribution or Transmission) business areas as this will be the qualification that you will be studying on the programme.
